Important Reminders for Montgomery County Residents on Trash and Recycling Collection

Local homes corporations or condominium associations manage trash and recycling collection services. These services are paid for by homeowners. Pickup times, locations, and storage requirements may differ by association. Trash should be stored in airtight, waterproof containers that meet County regulations. Plastic bags, cardboard boxes, and paper sacks are not acceptable.

Residents are responsible for disposing of items not covered by the trash contractor or county recycling program. If a trash pickup is missed, residents should wait until the next scheduled trash day to put out their trash. If a pickup day is a holiday, trash will be collected on the next scheduled day. Residents should not put out trash on holidays.

Associations are taking steps to address illegal dumping. They may charge the responsible home or resident for any extra trash due to the costs of illegal dumping.

Montgomery County provides recycling services. Residents should store recyclables in county-provided containers. Yard waste can be stored in paper yard bags or in steel or plastic trash containers.

For recycling-related questions or concerns, residents should contact the county directly. They can call 311 or visit the Montgomery County website.
